HEALTHCARE
I believe that every human being deserves access to affordable, equitable, quality healthcare. I believe that the social determinants of health contribute to our community’s health outcome disparities. In order to improve our overall health, we must ensure that our communities are equipped with: safe housing, safe neighborhoods, access to fresh food, safe spaces for physical activity, clean air and water, education and pathways to holistic healing, and an end to the racism and discrimination that serve as obstacles to reaching one’s fullest potential of quality health and well-being.
HOUSING
I believe that housing is a healthcare issue, and the most critical aspect of a healthy life experience. Housing security is the foundation of positive well-being. Home ownership is still the most American way to generate family wealth and legacy. We must continue to ensure that every resident of this city can not only afford to live and thrive here, but that they don’t have without forfeiting their dream of home ownership to do so.
PUBLIC SAFETY
I believe that it is inaccurate to think that policing and incarceration alone deliver public safety; in fact, an unhealthy dependence on these systems actually impedes public safety issues. I believe that true public safety is a village responsibility, and that the role of government is to provide investments in community-based services, mental health services, behavioral health crisis response, drug treatment programs, and other services that work to create a web of services on the ground, where they matter most.
EDUCATION
I believe that a free, top tier, all-encompassing education is the birthright of every human being from pre-K through College, period. I believe that our approach to educating our children needs to be holistic, dynamic and capable of keeping up with the advent of new technological paradigms. I believe that school initiatives centering physical and mental health programs and initiatives in school are of the utmost importance to the ultimate success of our children, and that a well-rounded strategy comprehensive approach for educating our children must be at the forefront of any strategy to improve the overall state of the collective community.
