Community Empowerment is a term that denotes a symbiotic and necessary relationship between the community and its ability to influence the systems, policies and decisions that affect the lives and experiences of those that live in said community. Principles of community empowerment include community control, leadership, accountability, and connective and effective relationships.
Marlon’s vision is one of Community Empowerment.
A successful connection between leadership and the community looks like a community that is continuously informed, educated, engaged and most importantly, a community that is heard. It looks like local leadership that rises out of this process, and civic participation that pours back into this process.
